Applications of Clearguard®

PRESSURE MEASUREMENT

Measuring pressure in pipes and vessels requires a tapping point. In applications both scaling and "clean", the accumulation of foreign matter in the tapping point can seriously affect the pressure measurement.

 

Installing a Clearguard® eliminates this cause of error in the pressure measurements taken. This can be particularly important in Safety Shut-down systems where 1oo2 or 2oo3 policies apply (as shown at left). Not only is the measurement more accurate and reliable, but spurious shutdowns due to restricted or blocked tapping points are eliminated.
 

 

DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE MEASUREMENT

Differential Pressure Measurement is especially important to monitor the performance of process equipment such as filters or heaters. An increase in Differential Pressure across a filter indicates a drop in filtration performance. Since Clearguard® maintains a clear Tapping Point for a Differential Pressure Transmitter, filter performance can be accurately monitored.



LEVEL MEASUREMENT USING A LIQUID PURGE

In both atmospheric and pressure vessels, liquid purges are no longer required to keep the Instrument Tapping Point clean.

Purge consumption can be reduced to an almost Static Purge scenario, since Clearguard® is performing the duty of mechanically clearing away debris and scale accumulation.

In many Level Measurement applications, Clearguard® allows the standardization of the measuring instrument type.


FLOW MEASUREMENT

Many Flow measurement applications are able to utilize Clearguard® to maintain open Tapping Points. Venturi Tubes which are suited to dirty fluids and slurry applications would include two Clearguards®. (shown on top right).

Clearguard® is able to withstand significant vibration and shock and can be mounted on most Venturi Tube Diameters and wall thickness. Similar to Venturi Tube applications, Clearguard® can be installed on either side of an
Orifice Plate. (as shown in diagram on left).

Additional Applications include installing Clearguard® on Elbow or Pipe Bend Tapping Points (as seen below right).
 

 

SG AND DENSITY MEASUREMENT

Applications that need Density or S.G. measurement are able to use Clearguard® to maintain clean Tapping Points for accurate process measurement. For S.G. measurement in a slurry application, Tapping Points with Clearguard® are installed a fixed distance apart with a Differential Pressure Transmitter calibrated accordingly. Temperature transmitters may also be installed for Density calculation. (as in diagram on left)



S.G. measurement in vessels with dirty or scaling process is achievable using Differential  Pressure Transmitters. Clearguard® maintains clear Tapping Points, which, at a fixed distance apart, allows a DP Cell to be calibrated using a known S.G.. Any variation in S.G. is measured by the DP Cell.

In vessels where liquid levels vary, two Clearguards® keep two Tapping Points a fixed distance apart clear of any scale or debris, allowing accurate process variable measurement. Only one Tapping Point is necessary for fixed level vessels. Temperature transmitters may also be installed for Density calculation. (as shown on right)
 

LEVEL MEASUREMENT WITH A GAS PURGE

Level measurement in atmospheric vessels can now be achieved using Differential Pressure Transmitters and gas purges. Clearguard® will help maintain reliable and accurate level measurement by keeping the tapping point clean. (as shown in diagram on the left)

Specific Gravity can also be measured and used to enhance the accuracy of the level measurement. See Optional S.G. device.

Level measurement in pressure vessels utilizing a gas purge is also made simpler and more reliable with the use of Clearguard®. (as seen on right)
